I watched this move about 7-8 years ago, and I loved it. This article definitely sparked the desire to rewatch it. 😊

It is full of powerful messages, especially the first one for me.

If we became overly individualistic and isolate ourselves to our drop-like little space, what good would we do to the world?

So true! I also want to rewatch the movie... and am slightly dreading how long that will take me, hah! Thank you for sharing your perspective!

"What is an ocean but a multitude of drops?" - wow what a line... Thanks for sharing this with us Louise - really well written and insightful. Gotta go watch this movie now! What kind of vibe/genre is it? Any other movies that are similar in their genre?

You're very welcome, Zan!

The genre question is a tough one... I think this movie is so weird it's in a genre of its own. In terms of other movies or shows that are similar, Sense8 (by the same directors) comes to mind.

Hmmm ok - I suppose I'll have to give it a watch then! I try stay away from super dark comedies - just not my vibe, that's why I was curious :)

I totally hear you, I'm the same. Cloud Atlas is just... weird. A one-of-a-kind-movie. The first hour, I was like "why am I watching this? This sucks." and then it all came together beautifully (for my taste). It's one of those movies you either really like or hate.

If you like good-natured comedies (that still have a ton of depth), The Good Place is great but you might have already seen that. :)

I liked the Good Place!

Also - did you read Cloud Atlas or just watch it? I might read it first actually...

A reminder I definitely needed today.

Thanks.

I love that you mentioned the Neanderthal cave art. As much as I have thought about and reflected on it (I love Ancestors), I never considered it from this angle: the ripple effect these lives would have throughout time. How their art would span the whole world tens of thousands of years later in a ripple effect. Super insightful.

I believe that this insight will make it into my work in the future somehow. Possibly in a big way.

Very appreciated.

Oh, you're so welcome. I'm glad this was a helpful reminder today, Ramon! And, of course, super-curious how this insight might make its way into your work when the time is ripe. (The rippling just goes on and on, doesn't it?)
