Then last year I made the (possibly foolish) decision to share my political views for a little while, and found out in a very painful way that much of my audience doesn't align with (or really, understand) my views and some even attacked me publicly. Many quit reading/watching my content even though none of my usual content touches on anything political (overtly anyway). My business declined about 50% over the past year, in part because of it. So it was quite a sacrifice and I don't feel like I made much of a positive impact by doing it.
Anyway... just wanted to support your idea that we are each allowed to pursue our purpose even though we may seem "silent" on political issues we supposedly "must stand up for!"
Thanks for sharing, George! Yeah, it sucks when we're trying to do something positive and then it backfires.
I didn't see what you posted about politics but knowing you a little bit from having been in one of your coaching groups (I went by Bere back then), I can't imagine it was anything offensive.
It reminds me of the idea of the tyranny of little differences... where people often have a hard time handling small disagreements from people they think are in their "group" (in terms of beliefs, politics, etc.) which then leads to infighting.
Wise! Thank you for sharing this. I spoke on this a couple years ago as well -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QffSc9tFhWw
